There were plenty of local residents who took advantage of the opportunity recently to get in some skating. Dufferin-Caledon MPP Sylvia Jones helped get the new year started by hosting a free Family Skate at Lloyd Wilson Centennial Arena in Inglewood. Jonathan Bezemer, 3, of Belfountain and his sister Amika, 6, were venturing out onto the ice.

Jon McCarthy of Inglewood was giving his daughter Lauren, 4, a hand as she got used to the ice.

Jones was keeping an eye on things as Alexander Da Silva, 3, or Orangeville made his way across the rink.
