Man arrested after fleeing from RIDE

An 18-year-old man from Toronto is facing several charges after he failed to stop at a Reduce impaired Driving Everywhere (RIDE) spot check Saturday.
Caledon OPP reports the spot check was on Winston Churchill Boulevard at Olde Base Line Road. A silver 2002 Acura was seen approaching the spot shortly before 5 p.m. at a very high rate of speed.
The car failed to stop, and almost ran down two of the officers.
The car continued to head north, with officers following, and it failed to negotiate the turn onto Side Road 5, ending up in the ditch. The driver, who was alone in the vehicle, tried to get away on foot, but the officers caught him.
He was charged with dangerous operation of a motor vehicle, taking flight while being pursued by a peace officer, possession of property obtained by crime under $5,000, possession of a schedule II substance (cannabis marijuana) under 30 grams, racing a motor vehicle, operating a motor vehicle without insurance, driving with a class G1 licence unaccompanied by a qualified driver, driving a vehicle without a validated permit, and using a plate not authorized for the vehicle.
