Peel 4-H celebrates many achievements

By Bill Rea
Peel 4-H members have been very busy working on various projects and learning about agriculture and their community.
It was a time to recognize their achievements and the contributions of those who have helped them along the way.
Peel 4-H held their annual Awards Night Friday, with a lot of hardware being handed out.
Several people came in for special recognition. Volunteers Lindsay Bebbington and Brian Emmerton were noted for their five years of service, Al Williams for 10 years and James Johnston was thanked for his 40 years as a volunteer.
“There are a lot of good leaders who helped us all out,” he remarked as he accepted his award.
First year members were recognized as well, with Senna Millar-Maggi winning the award for Most Enthusiastic First Year Member from the Kiwanis Club of Brampton. Graduating members Cassie deBoer, Amelia Judge and Michelle Reid were noted, with deBoer and Judge being cited for graduating with honours.
The Peel 4-H Secretary's Award was presented to Bolton Junior Fair Ambassador Kayla Emmerton, and she also received the Benefits of 4-H Me Now and in the Future Award, as well as the Carl Madgett Memorial Leadership Award. Allison French got the Peel 4-H Media Award. Robert Matson was recognized as the Most Involved Senior Member Outside of 4-H. The Kiwanis Citizenship Award went to Brett Patten and Nicole French and Jamie Laidlaw received the Peel 4-H/Kiwanis Scholarship Award.
As well, the accomplishments for several of the 4-H clubs were highlighted, as well as some of the activities of groups of members.
“We are very proud of what we do,” commented Ontario 4-H Foundation Chair Joanne Currie, as she congratulated the members of their successes.
Mayor Allan Thompson had praise for all the work the members and their leaders have put in. He's been a leader himself, and he said he knows how rewarding it is.
He pointed out 4-H teaches various skills, including leadership, how to conduct meetings and problem solving.
“These are skill sets you can use for the rest of your life,” he said.
Dufferin-Caledon MPP Sylvia Jones also congratulated the members, assuring them they will look back fondly on the year they have had.
Emmerton was representing the Albion and Bolton Agricultural Society, and she reflected on how 4-H has shaped who she is today and will be in the future.

Lindsay Bebbington (middle) was joined by Chloe Kostynyk and Allison, Nicole and Julie French led those assembled at 4-H Awards Night in an exercise break.
