C3 Kinetico Kids of Steel marks its 13th year Sunday in Caledon village

For the 13th consecutive year, Youth took over the streets of Caledon village for the C3 Kinetico Kids of Steel Triathlon.
The yearly youth and family triathlon took place at Caledon Central Public School and the local streets, and was run under ideal weather.
“Without the great support of the town of Caledon, Caledon village and our wonderful sponsors like Kinetico, Royal Containers and Benson Steel, we could not execute such a world-class event,” said race director Stewart Barclay.
Once again the day’s largest event was the 3-6 year old youth category, where youngsters used water wings, tricycles and ran 100 metres to the finishing line, often with a parent bringing up the rear. The day had many highlights, including the involvement of Sydney Olympic Triathlete Isabelle Baird, who had her own children racing.
Athletes from Windsor, Collingwood, Peterborough, Hamilton and the entire Greater Toronto Area (GTA) were in attendance.
“It’s hard to believe we have been putting the race on for 13 consecutive years, but amazingly we have hit our teenage anniversary of the race,” Barclay said.
Barclay was glowing with pride Sunday evening after three consecutive days of setting up, running the event and finally putting away the equipment.
“Our 150 volunteers are truly exceptional and without them we could not put on such a big event,” he remarked.
One of the highlights of the day was having the entire C3 High Performance Elite Professional Team in town to spend the day with the kids.
“To get international athletes like Andrew Yorke, Taylor Reid and Sean Bechtel out for a full day is remarkable, and I know how much the kids and their families enjoyed it,” Barclay observed.
Another highlight of the day was the CEO challenge with Kinetico’s Phillip Adsetts just edging out Steve Benson from Benson Steel.
“To have local sponsors not just donate money and time, but to participate as well, is very uplifting,” he said.
