Weir matched five numbers plus the bonus number to win a secondary prize. “I stopped to gas up and buy some lottery tickets,” he explained when he was at the OLG Prize Centre in Toronto to pick up his winnings. “Part of my routine is to check my tickets from the week before. Halfway through scanning my tickets, I noticed ‘Big Winner' and what looked like $6,000. I didn't have my glasses on so the number was blurry.” The father of three returned home and asked his wife to double check the ticket. “That's when she told me it wasn't $6,000; it was more than $60,000,” he recalled. “All I could say was, ‘Now that's really nice!'” Later that day Weir and his wife of 40 years were out with some friends. “When I shared the news with them they joked that the drinks were on me. And of course I paid,” he laughed. Weir has plans in mind for his big win. “My attitude is the one who dies with the most toys wins, so I am going to get myself more toys, including a big green tractor!” he said. The winning ticket was purchased at Esso on Highway 9 near Palgrave.
