Learn origins of names of local places

What's in a name?
On the eve of their 200th anniversary, did you ever wonder how and why some regions, counties and communities were named?
The Belfountain Heritage Society presents author and historian John McDonald, who will speak about The Origin of Place Names in the Halton, Peel, Belfountain and Erin Areas and their communities.
It will be this coming Tuesday (April 11) at Belfountain Community Hall. The Society will be holding its annual general meeting, starting at 7 p.m., followed by the presentation at 7:45.
McDonald will present the origin behind the names of many of the communities that make up Peel, Wellington County and Halton Region. This colourful powerpoint presentation will include several beautiful vintage and contemporary photographs of the area.
After four years of research, McDonald also provides a brief look at the life and times of William Halton, the man for whom Halton County was named, his contributions to the development of Upper Canada (present-day Ontario) as well as some of the contrasts between Wellington, Peel and Halton.
There will be no charge for the presentation, and light refreshments will be served.14-belf - 5.5
