Artist Pachter donates works of art to PAMA in celebration of Canada 150

One of Canada’s leading contemporary artists, Charles Pachter is donating various works of art, including a depiction of the Canadian flag to the Peel Art Gallery, Museum and Archives (PAMA) in celebration of Canada 150.
The artwork, The Painted Flag, was unveiled at Regional council recently by Chair Frank Dale, Friends of PAMA Chair Chuck Scott and Pachter. The gift consists of 56 works of art — two paintings, 52 prints, one sculpture, and one limited edition book that Pachter created in collaboration with Margaret Atwood.
The public will be able to view Pachter’s The Painted Flag in an upcoming exhibition, What Makes this Country Tick: Selected Works by Charles Pachter, opening in early April at PAMA. This exhibition kicks off an exciting line-up of activities and programs in recognition of Canada and Peel 150.
“This is PAMA’s first legacy gift of 2017 and we are truly honored,” PAMA Art Gallery Curator Tom Smart said. “It will add depth to the PAMA collection and will be a treasure for the Region of Peel for generations to come.”
Pachter is an Officer of the Order of Canada and a Member of the Order of Ontario. He has been recognized for his accomplishments in France with the Ordre des Art et des Lettres award and is a recipient of the Queen’s Golden and Diamond Jubilee medals.
As a painter, printmaker, sculptor and designer, Pachter has been a major contributor to the Ontario and Canadian art scene for more than half a century. His distinctive art is woven into the very fabric of Ontario’s self-image and public consciousness. His emblematic images are represented in public and private collections and his ubiquitous “Moose Crossing” road signs can be seen along highways and roads across the province. His work can also be viewed at Toronto’s College Subway Station, Parliament buildings, the Prime Minister’s residence, the Embassy of France in Ottawa and the Canadian Embassy in Washington, D.C.
