DQ Athletes of the Week — Feb. 9, 2017

Mayfield Secondary School Tobin Haas This 17-year-old is skip on the seniors boys’ curling team. The squad has a 1-2 record so far, but he said it’s still early in the season. He’s looking forward to the start of the rowing season in the spring. He’s a coxswain. In the community, he curls at the Chinguacousy Curling Club. The Grade 12 student lives in Brampton.

Robert F. Hall Catholic Secondary School Quinton McQuaig This Grade 10 student is a guard on the junior boys’ basketball team. “We’re having a tough season, but everyone’s playing good,” he said. In the community, he plays rep basketball for the Halton Huskies, which operates out of Hamilton. The 15-year-old lives in Orangeville.

She also played on the varsity basketball team which won ROPSSAA, capping an undefeated season, and she’s planning to play outdoor lacrosse in the spring. Away from school, she used to play softball in Bolton. The Grade 10 student lives in Bolton.

Humberview Secondary School Jillian McDermott This Grade 9 student has been active in nordic skiing. She finished eighth in an event in Owen Sound and 11th at another in Mono. She also won the Novice Day Race. She played quarterback and wide received on the flag football team in the fall, and is thinking of going out for rugby in the spring. Away from school, she enjoys snow board racing. The 15-year-old lives in the Palgrave area.
