Ainsley Fire finally posts win in Sunday night league

It was an evening of close games Nov. 6 in the Sunday Night Hockey League, with one exception.
That exception saw the Ainsley Fire Protection Fire notch their first win in eight weeks of action.
By the end of the evening, the Inside Out Family Chiropractic Predators were in first place in the standings with 12 points, followed by the Ken’s Lawn Mower Repairs Ltd. Blades and Mr. Handyman Moose, who are tied for second with 11. The Pommies Cider Co. Wild and the St. Louis Bar and Grill Wings share fourth place with eight apiece, followed by the Glen Eagle Golf Club Griffins with seven, Sports Marketing All Stars with five and the Fire trailing with two.
Nov. 6
Fire 8, Wings 3
The Fire were blazing on this night as they handed the loss to the St. Louis Bar and Grill Wings.
Net nabbers for the Fire were Alex Schittenhelm, Shane Ainsley and Sandro Mignosa with two each, while David DiMeo and Mark Andreoli added singles. Assists were by Trevor Cation, Schittenhelm, Mignosa, Mike Weeda, Ainsley, Kevin Wigner, Andreoli and Ryan Wood. Wings’ point getters were Daniel Hamlett from Darren Levy, Hamlett from Levy, and Levy from Hamlett.
Griffins 6, Blades 4
The Glen Eagle Golf Club Griffins were able to dull the Ken’s Lawn Mower Repairs Ltd. Blades and get the win.
Goal getters for the Griffins were Tim Vokey with the hat trick, David Ilijasic with two and Andrew Kirk with the single. Helpers were from Brent Spagnol, Scott Cantelon, Dan Maggio, Vokey, Dave Matheson and Jody Spagnol. Blades’ bin bulgers were Cam Coulter from Dave Gardilcic, Mark Bauldry from Darryl Simpson, Greg Fuller from Simpson, and Simpson from Shawn Simpson.
Wild 3, All Stars 3
In a see-saw battle, neither team could best the other this night, with the Sports Marketing All Stars and the Pommies Cider Co. Wild skating to the tie.
Wild lamp lighters were Dale Deleonardis from Brad Sztorc, Marc de Abaitua (unassisted), and Jesse Thompson from Graham Bryson. Stars’ snipers were Steve Whitten (unassisted), Kevin Christie from Steve Smith, and Matt Dowdle from Ron Toffan.
Predators 3, Moose 2
The last game saw the Inside Out Family Chiropractic Predators hand the Mr. Handyman Moose their second straight loss of the year.
Predator punchers were John Hutchinson from Austin Brown, Hutchinson from Ryan Smith, and Brown from Brett Appio. Moose mashers were Jay Beech from Richard Archer, and Brandon Scott from Mike Desario and Brian Dunn.
Oct. 30
The end of the seventh week of action meant all the teams had faced each other once.
The Moose and Blades emerged sharing top spot in the standings, with the Predators one point back.
Wild 4, Moose 1
The Pommies crew were able to squeeze the juice out of the Moose and hand them their first loss of the year.
Wild whippers were Sztorc from Deleonardis, Marc de Abaitua from Jason Clark, Kevin Bowen from goalie Rick DiPassio, and de Abaitua from DiPassio. The Moose got on the board with Lee Noseworthy from Beech.
Wings 7, Griffins 4
With lots of goals, the Wings were able to tame the Griffins and get the win.
Wings’ high flyers were Hamlett with four, accompanied by singles from Eric Webster, Derek Cleary and Victor Ranieri. Assists came from the sticks of Hamlett, Bob McHardy, Levy, Webster, Scott McCrimmon and Ranieri. Griffins’ goal grabbers were Jody Spagnol, Brent Spagnol, Vokey and Ilijasic, with help from Vokey, Ilijasic, Maggio, Cory Schittenhelm and Lukas Koroluk.
Predators 2, All Stars 0
Tender Grant MacEwen earned a goose-egg for his Predators as the All Stars weren’t able to find the back of the twine tent.
Predator pouncers were Appio from Shaun Heron, and Heron from Colin Fyffe.
Blades 9, Fire 6
In a game where the goalies seemed to have little or no help, the Blades were able to pile on the goals and get the win over the Fire.
Point getters for the Blades were Bogdan Rapan, Dan Shaw, Gardilcic, Daryll Simpson, Coulter, David Payne, Shawn Simpson and Mike Blackwood. Fire’s game sheet getters were Alex Schittenhelm, Mark Andreoli, James Kennedy, DiMeo, Kevin Wigner, Fab Iafano and Weeda.
Oct. 23
Moose 7, Wings 0
Brett Weight stood tall and turned away all shots this night for the Moose, as they shut out the Wings.
Steve Hutchins and Scott each buried a pair, with Beech, Desario and Archer garnering singles. Assists were from Desario, Chuck Hughes, Hutchins, Scott, Noseworthy and Craig Shaw.
All Stars 7, Fire 6
In a wild shootout, the All Stars were able to steal the win in the last seconds of the third over the Fire.
Finding the back of the net for the Stars were Dowdle with the hat trick, Whitten with two and Mike Brioux and Steve Smith with singles. Assists were from Brad Wigner, Kevin Norris, Silvio Muraca, Toffan, Ed Lewis and Whitten. Fire’s firers were Alex Schittenhelm, Mignosa and Mark Andreoli each with a pair, with assists from the sticks of DiMeo, Mignosa, Schittenhelm, Iafano, Kennedy and Cation.
Blades 7, Predators 1
In the third big scoring game of the night, the Blades handled the Predators with apparent ease.
Lamp lighting for the Blades were Shawn Simpson and Coulter with two each, Rapan, Dan Shaw and Daryll Simpson. Assists were by Daryll Simpson, Rapan, Clark Chung, Shaw, Bauldry and Gardilcic. The Predators’ lone marksman was Appio (unassisted).
Griffins 5, Wild 5
In the last game of the night, neither team could best the other as the Wild and the Griffins skated to the draw.
Griffins’ go-to guys were Jody Spagnol, Shane Gordon, Brent Spagnol, Brendan Pace and Kirk, with Brent Spagnol, Vokey, Matheson and Jody Spagnol getting helpers. Wild whackers were Deleonardis, Justin de Abaitua, Bryson (with a pair) and Darren Jones with help from Sztorc, Jones, Deleonardis, Shane Marshall and de Abaitua.
Oct. 16
Predators 5, Fire 2
The Predators cracked the Fire squad and got the win.
Net nabbers for the Predators were Ryan Smith, Travis Rumney, Fyffe, Mike Andreoli and Appio, with help from Fyffe, Heron, Hutchinson, Howard Cantelon, Rumney and Greg Keenan. Fire’s forgers were Iafano from Ainsley and Mark Andreoli, and DiMeo from Weeda.
Moose 3, Griffins 0
After two scoreless periods, the Moose found their aim and netted three to take the win over the Griffins.
Twine ticklers for the Moose were Beech from Desario and Dunn, Desario from Alex White, and Scott from Mike Hamilton, with Weight earning the shut-out.
Wings 7, Wild 4
In a wild shootout, the Wings were able to plow past the Wild and get the victory.
Lighting the lamp for the Wings were Derek Cleary, Hamlett (with two), Eric Webster, Mike DeFrancesco and Larry Richardson (with a pair). Assists were from the sticks of Levy, Hamlett, Cleary, Richardson, Eric Humphreys, Webster and Brandon Jones. Wild warriors were Sztorc from Deleonardis, Marshall from Bryson and Marc de Abaitua, Marshall (unassisted) and Deleonardis from Sean Doner.
Blades 6, All Stars 5
In a barn burner, the Blades were able to outlast the All Stars and get the win with neither team helping out the keepers much on this night.
Blades’ bin bulgers were Daryll Simpson with four, Rapan and Coulter, with help from Payne, Coulter, Simpson, Shawn Simpson and Rapan. Stars’ snipers were Shane DeLaronde with two, Norris, Whitten and Toffan, helpers were from Whitten, Steve Smith, Steve Conforti, Brad Wigner, DeLaronde and Toffan.
