Rotary Club of Palgrave’s Weekly Rotary Minute

Some say we decide to act in a split second. To make a change. To try something new. To help a friend.
But, it often takes many seconds, minutes, or even years to get to this point.
I was recently asked: 1) What is Rotary? 2) What do you do there? 3) Are you retired?
While I wasn’t surprised by these questions, I was waiting for one which never came: Why do you do this?
Perhaps it’s not polite to ask. But it should be an answer we give as Rotarians.
As we continue to engage with potential members and tell stories of our many “whats” and “hows” — we should also have an answer for “why.”
Potential members will engage, invest and act because of “why” more than “what” or “how.”
As we start to see generations come together on social media, what we do and how we do it, while important, will only resonate with a few. Why we do it will speak to many.
