DQ Athletes of the Week —April 21, 2015

Mayfield Secondary School Lizzie Gibson This 14-year-old is playing scrum half for the junior girls’s rugby team. They played a game last Thursday against Meadowvale Secondary School, and she contributed three tries to a 31-5 victory. She was also a forward on the hockey team, which made it to the playoffs. She played varsity field hockey in the fall. In the community, she plays rep hockey for the North Halton Twisters and rep soccer for the Milton Youth Soccer Club. The Grade 9 student lives in Cheltenham.

Robert F. Hall Catholic Secondary School Tom Yang The Grade 11 student is a badminton player, specializing in singles. He’s also got determination, as he developed a blister in a recent contest, but kept going. He said he’s been playing badminton for three years. He also played junior basketball at school last year. The 17-year-old lives in Caledon East.

St. Michael Catholic Secondary School Peter Kalligisfyris This 16-year-old is playing defence and midfield on the senior boys’ soccer team. They lost a match last Thursday, but he said they played in the recent Hershey Tournament in Mississauga and made it to the finals. He said his “complete focus” is on soccer, believing that focusing on one thing makes one better at it. Away from school, he plays rep soccer for Malton FC. The Grade 11 student lives in Bolton.

Away from school, he plays Jr. B lacrosse in the Brampton Excelsiors’ organization and played centre on the victorious Caledon Hawks midget rep team. The 18-year-old lives in Caledon East.
