Talk of the Town by Mayor Allan Thompson — Check out the fun in Caledon in February

February 4, 2016   ·   0 Comments

The Town of Caledon Council approved a historic 2016 budget Jan. 19 with a responsible blended increase of 1.97 per cent.
I say historic because of the unprecedented level of community engagement. This was a budget by the people, for the people.
Some of the highlights include the capital investment of a Fire Training Facility and a Broadband Levy that will allow us to take full advantage of Federal and Provincial funding. As well, we are continuing to invest in our road networks and bridges and we are delivering on the priorities outlined in the 55 Plus Strategic Plan, Council Workplan and the Parks and Recreation Visioning Exercise.
Family Day is Feb. 15 and we have lots of fun and exciting free events planned for all ages. The Albion-Bolton Community Centre will feature skating and the Mayfield complex will offer public swimming, skating, parent and child shinny and other family focused activities.
Dress warmly and get outdoors this month to explore one of our many trails and conversation areas in Caledon. It’s an opportunity to unplug, and reconnect with nature. Here are some of the amazing winter sports you can take part in at Albion Hills Conservation Area (either bring your own equipment or rent it on site): cross country skiing, tobogganing, skating or check out the Fat Bikes. Afterwards, enjoy a hot chocolate in the heated chalet.
Even though we’ve had a mild winter so far, the weather and road conditions can change quickly, a reminder to take extra care while driving. The OPP have a slogan, “See snow, go slow.” Leave a good distance between you and the car in front of you, and if it’s really bad, stay in and stay safe.
February maybe short on days but it’s full of fun.Check out our tourism website for a full list of the many things to do around Caledon.Allan thompson
