Keon welcomed back

February 1, 2016   ·   0 Comments

Having moved to the Greater Toronto Area (GTA) from Montreal in 1969, I jumped on the Leaf Nation’s band wagon in 1970, mostly because of their captain, Davey Keon.
Then came the Ballard years and we all know that story. And finally, Brendan Shanahan was able to do what no one else seems to have been able to do — not just honor Dave Keon, but get him to finally feel at home here, again, finally.
So this past Saturday, while the great rivalry of the Leafs and Habs faced off at the ACC, Davey was honored with two other greats — Tim Horton and Turk Broda. So one would expect the applause for this presentation would be as loud as if the Leafs had won the cup. But sadly it wasn’t. It was actually a bit lame.
And why? Because at least half the audience were taking pictures with their cell phones and not applauding.
Is this where technology has taken us? All the pictures you could want are on line and before you even got home from the game, and probably a lot better than the ones you will get from your cell phone.
I hope Dave Keon understood why the applause was not that loud. Sorry Dave, and welcome home.
Brian Perras,
Caledon
