DQ Athletes of the Week — Oct. 1, 2015

Mayfield Secondary School Matthew Berry This 17-year-old is the quarterback for the school’s senior football team. They have only seen action in a small tournament, but he called the signals for last year’s squad that made it to the semifinals. He was also on the school’s baseball team last year. In the community, used to play hockey, and is hoping to play men’s baseball next summer. The Grade 12 student lives in Caledon village with his parents Colin and Denise Berry.

Hall Catholic Secondary School Brooke Sullivan This Grade 10 student has been showing her prowess as a running back on the varsity flag football team, which won its first game 18-7 over Fletcher's Meadow Secondary School. She contributed a touchdown and some interceptions to the cause. She also played power on the varsity volleyball team last year, as well as striker on the junior soccer team. Away from school, she plays with the Orangeville Minor Soccer Club. The 15-year-old lives in Orangeville with her parents Andrew and Shelley Sullivan.

This Grade 10 student has been showing her prowess as a running back on the varsity flag football team, which won its first game 18-7 over Fletcher’s Meadow Secondary School. St. Michael Catholic Secondary School Steve Luongo This 17-year-old is quarterback for the senior football team, and they won their first game of the campaign last week; a 35-0 victory over Sandalwood Heights Secondary School of Brampton. In school, he’s been active in lacrosse, track and field, hockey and badminton. In the community, he plays centre for the Caledon Hawks midget A team. The Grade 12 student lives in Bolton with his parents Laura and tony Luongo.

He’s thinking of trying out for the school’s soccer team, and might try his hand at archery. Away from school, he used to play midfield with Supernova FC in Mississauga. The 17-year-old lives in the Bolton area with his parents Ylenia and Gino Turchiaro.
