Regarding National Affairs by Claire Hoy — Some absurd fear-mongering (July 8).
“Beyond the absurd fear-mongering of the critics — and the ever-present concern that Stephen Harper is somehow trying to stack the election in his favour —” Hoy writes the return to Québec politics of Jean-Martin Aussant whose most eloquent eulogy at the funeral of Jacques Parizeau signals a re-invigoration for the independence cause.
A more probable outcome of the October federal election will be a minority government led by Green Party leader Elizabeth May with the Official Opposition to be led by Bloc Québécois leader Gilles Duceppe. Followers of Canadian politics who rely on members of the Canadian Parliamentary Press Gallery clique are sorely uninformed of the progress toward an independent Québec in recent important events.
Former Ontario Premier James Whitney, who introduced Regulation 17 in 1912, which banned the teaching of French in Ontario schools, will continue to divide Canada by the perpetuation of English-language press gallery writers to deny the existence of the reality of the commitment of the Bloc and Parti Québécois to establish the nation of Québec.
