Open letter from Mayor Allan Thompson

July 8, 2015   ·   0 Comments

I felt it was important to publicly address the articles recently published in the Toronto Star suggesting some (anonymous) individuals were concerned I may have or had a conflict of interest.
Let me be perfectly clear: I do not.
The sale of the Thompson multi-family, three-generation farm this past April was a private and difficult family decision. Our lands were not part of the Bolton Residential Expansion Study, the GTA West Corridor Study Area, Mayfield West phase 1, Mayfield West phase 2 or the lands in the Alloa Land Owner Group.
I have always taken my responsibilities as a Regional councillor and Mayor extremely seriously. I have educated myself about my role and responsibilities under the Municipal Conflict of Interest Act by taking several courses and training sessions on the subject. Any time I’ve had any conceivable question about a potential conflict, I have sought and received legal opinions. I can state with confidence that I was not, and I am not, in a conflict of interest.
I recognize that scrutiny comes hand-in-hand with serving in public office, and I accept that. Please know that it will not distract me from doing my job to the best of my ability. That job is to serve you, represent your interests and work to secure the sustainability and viability of our great Town.
Allan Thompson,
Mayor,
Town of Caledon
