Sports DQ Athletes of the Week — June 18, 2015

Mayfield Secondary School Sam Ruder This 17-year-old has been showing his stuff as a sculler on the school’s rowing team. In their final regatta, as part of the double-scull entry, they finished third. He also competed at the Nationals in Welland. He’s been rowing since he was in Grade 10. The Grade 12 student is looking to university next year, but will likely rest his blades to concentrate more on academics. He lives in Bolton with his parents Angel and Gordon Ruder.

Robert F. Hall Catholic Secondary School Kyle Hauck The Grade 12 student has been contributing his skills to the school’s varsity baseball team as a short stop and pitcher. The team made it to the playoffs. He also played power this year on the school’s new varsity volleyball team. In the community, he plays rep baseball in the Bolton Braves organization. The 17-year-old lives in Caledon village with his parents Tracy and Jeff Hauck.

St. Michael Catholic Secondary School Daniel Korkis This 16-year-old scored the winning goal in a 1-0 triumph over St. Marcellinus Secondary School to take the ROPSSAA title for junior boys’ soccer, playing left wing and striker. Away from school, he plays for the Woodbridge Strikers in the Ontario Youth Soccer League. The Grade 10 student lives in Bolton with his parents George and Sandra Korkis.

He also played ping pong and badminton at school this year. Away from school, he plays tennis at Palgrave Tennis Club and Headwaters Racquet Club in Orangeville. The 18-year-old lives in Palgrave with his parents Steve Dean and Jenette Brown.
