Schools and parishes across the Dufferin-Peel Catholic District School Board are hosting many special events and activities during the week of May 3 to 8, as students, staff, and the community celebrate Catholic Education Week.
The highlight of this year’s celebration will be the second annual board-wide student Mass tomorrow (Friday) at 10 a.m. Thomas Cardinal Collins will preside. The mass will be at Saviour of the World Chinese Catholic Church in Mississauga. More than 500 secondary students will be in attendance.
“We are very honoured to have His Eminence join us in celebrating Catholic Education Week,” commented Director of Education John B. Kostoff. “This mass will celebrate youth leadership, demonstrate Catholic students’ message of pride, as well as the strength and unity of Catholic students across the board.”
The theme for Catholic Education Week is Exploring Paths of Joy. Many schools will host events and activities reflective of this theme, including: plays, art displays, celebratory Masses, fundraisers, motivational speakers, and much more. All community members, especially parents, guardians and families, are invited to participate in the events and activities planned for their school communities throughout the week.
“Our Catholic schools have, and continue to uphold, a strong tradition of excellence that is rooted in achievement, faith and service,” Kostoff added. “Catholic Education Week provides an excellent opportunity for students, staff, trustees and the wider community to reflect on the many contributions Catholic schools make in our communities.”
